stage manager
SUMMARY:
Function: With supervision from Director or Assistant Director,
responsible for planning and coordinating work involved in the safety,
maintenance, security, clean up, staging and rigging of various
functions in a multi-purpose facility.
Scope: In conjunction with other supervisors, coordinates conversion of
facility for public events. Responsible for maintenance, improvements
and housekeeping of technical facilities and equipment.
DUTIES: Typical Interviews, hires and trains personnel. Plans and
coordinates their duties and with other supervisors, coordinates
scheduling of personnel. Responsible for maintenance and operation of
theater gridiron, care and maintenance of curtains, skirts, curtain
boxes, parallels, sound systems, risers, lectures, scenery and other
equipment. Works closely with Director and Assistant Director to fulfill
requests for stage equipment to ensure physical arrangement conforms to
user’s specifications. Acts as liaison between building management and
performing company’s technical personnel. Requisitions and maintains
inventory of materials, supplies, tools and spare parts to meet needs of
events and ongoing maintenance of facility. Maintains records of work,
maintenance programs and equipment. Performs related duties as required.
Periodic Re-trims grid battens, designs and constructs stage equipment.
Assists in mechanical maintenance of equipment. Fills in for other
supervisors during extremely busy periods.
SUPERVISION:
Received General and minimal oral and written instructions from the
Director or Assistant Director.
Given General and specific oral and written instructions to skilled and
semi-skilled personnel.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in technical theater and thorough
knowledge of stagecraft and electronic gridirons.
EXPERIENCE:
One or more years of experience in technical theater as stage manager
with administrative or supervisory experience. Two years of experience
as a stage manager in a multi-purpose facility equipped with electronic
gridirons. Demonstrated administrative or supervisory experience and
ability.
EQUIPMENT:
Working knowledge of operation of a theater gridiron, grid console and
other equipment.
ACCURACY:
Accuracy required in all phases of technical work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Long and unusual hours: nights, weekends, and holidays. Much work
performed under pressure. Gridiron work may be one hundred feet above
floor. May be physically demanding work.
OTHER: Works closely with performers or their representatives. Give
assistance and instruction to organizations using the facilities.
