"Smile"

just the other
day my lady and I were taking a drive
on the way home from an underground party
the sun was shining we couldn't stop smiling
so we just kept on smiling and waving at everybody
some smiled back some rolled their cynical eyes and turned away
maybe they were smiling on the inside
and better yet maybe some of them won't forget
maybe they'll give it a try the next time they take a ride
it should be easy, just think about it
so easy, to smile at the rich man in his Cadillac
even if he rolls his eyes
smile at the homeless man on the corner
he could be Jesus in disguise
if I could have my way there would be a holiday
everybody would smile at everyone the see
hold up a peace sign and let your love shine
sure sounds nice to me
just another song could go in one ear and out the other
it's easy to hear but it's another thing to listen
just another hippie singing love one another
it's not wishful thinking it's thoughtful wishing
just the other day my lady and I were taking a drive
going down the road and feeling bad
Came to a stop light I looked over and saw that homeless man
he was smiling for everything he had
it should be easy, just think about it
so easy, to smile at the rich man
in his big old fancy Cadillac even if he rolls his eyes
smile at the homeless man standing on the corner
he could be Buddha in disguise
smile at any man you can see right through his skin
whatever color it may be
hold up a peace sign and let your love shine
sure sounds nice,, sure sounds nice, sure sounds nice to me
