I. Ask Waterband: Ryan, how did you pick the drums over another instrument? I never actually decided that I wanted to be a drummer, it just happened. I've been surrounded by drums my whole life. My Dad, my two older brothers and I played in the Dover High School Band. My dad also used to play in church every Sunday, so I was probably listening to him play the drums while still in the womb. I have no idea when the first time I picked up a pair of drumsticks. Drumming is my passion, but I also like the piano and the keyboard. I have thought about learning, but the drum set is just too demanding. Besides, it has always felt good to strike a drum. There is no other instrument that has made me feel the same way.
Rick, when you write, what comes first, the music or the lyrics?
I've also stumbled across a riff or a melody by jamming with others or just sitting down to practice. Then, I just write some lyrics to the music.
...and then there's the rare occasion when you're jamming and a song just "happens". It's like the song finds you rather than you trying to find the song.

* On Monday, June 22nd, 2009, Waterband is performing at Settler’s Landing for “The Year of the River… 40 Years of Progress. This event is brought to us by The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Cuyahoga River Remedial Plan, The City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County of Ohio, and Cuyahoga Valley.
* The Meadows Music and Art Festival is coming the weekend of June 26 where Waterband will be performing at 10:00 PM. For more info, please visit http://www.myspace.com/meadowsfest
